Nicholas Deldon Obituary

DELDON, Nicholas J. of Arlington February 25, 2024.  Passed away peacefully at the age of 87 in the care of Belmont Manor.  Loving father of Lisa Lynch and Nicholas J. Deldon Jr of Concord and Arlington. Grandfather of Catherine and Aisling Lynch and Serafina Deldon. Brother of Anthony Deldon of Lancaster, Ralph Deldon of Billerica and Patricia Scrooc of Watertown.  Predeceased by his beloved wife Lynda Deldon, son Richard Deldon and his sister Elizabeth “Betty” Norfolk.  Nick is also survived by his son-in-law Frank Lynch, his daughter-in-law Emily Deldon and his brother-in-law and best friend, Daniel Pugliese, as well as many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Nick was born and raised in Watertown, MA where he enjoyed sports and starred on the Watertown High Football Team before joining the Marine Corps.  He then attended Wentworth Institute of Technology and worked for many years at Waltham Grinding Wheels and then Biogen. Nick was an excellent cook and once the proud owner of Joe and Nick’s sub shop, in Watertown Square where it is believed he gave away more sandwiches than he sold. He enjoyed many winters in Vero Beach, Florida while he waited for the Red Sox to return to Fenway Park. In the summer he could always be found with a fresh piece of basil tucked behind his ear as he tended his garden and meticulously cared for his “community” pool.

But more than anything Nick loved people.  Everywhere that he would go from the supermarket to the race track, an empty beach in Florida, or a rest stop in Saratoga Springs, he would meet people from Watertown High. He must have had the world’s largest graduating class!  He knew everyone and everyone knew him as he dedicated his life to helping family, friends and neighbors.  His home in Arlington on Newport Street always had an open door for anyone who needed a home cooked meal or a place to stay.  His backyard pool was the neighborhood gathering place and he was never short of people, popsicles or hot dogs.

Nick was an incredible father, the perfect Papa to his grandchildren and a very proud Uncle Nick.
