Bill Hansis of Cambridge passed away peacefully on November 14, 2023. He was the youngest son of the
late Joseph Hansis Sr. and the late Grace (Donnelly) Hansis of Cambridge. When Bill was born on
November 23, 1956, no one could imagine the remarkable life that he would lead over the next 67 years.
His family life was joyful with his siblings Elaine, Joe and Gary. Growing up the family enjoyed annual
summer vacations to Old Orchard Beach, Maine.
Bill was a proud alumnus of the Cotting School, graduating from the Boston Campus in 1976. He had
countless fond memories of his classmates and teachers. He cherished his time at Cotting and enjoyed
attending the annual reunions and seeing other alumni.
Bill enjoyed a distinguished career as an employee of the Cambridge Public School System. He was
admired and respected by his bosses, coworkers, and the high school students he encountered every day.
He retired in June 2022 after 43 years of dedicated service.
Bill enjoyed travelling. He went on cruises to Bermuda and the Caribbean. He traveled to New York City,
Washington D.C. and Las Vegas. In later years, he enjoyed spending time with family at Lake
Winnipesaukee and in York, Maine.
Bill enjoyed watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune nightly, playing Bingo and doing Sudoku. He
followed the Bruins and even had his picture taken with the Stanley Cup. He enjoyed eating out at
Jimmy's Steer House, Frank's Steak House and the Stockyard.
Bill is survived by his sister, Elaine Kneeland and her husband, Bill of Sudbury and his brother, Gary
Hansis and his wife, Kathy of Malden. He leaves his nephew Adam Kneeland and his wife, Erin of
Watertown, his nephew James Hansis and his wife Veronica of Georgia and niece, Kathryn Hansis of
Vermont. Bill leaves 4 great-nieces and 2 great-nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Joseph
Hansis Jr.
Bill was gentle, strong, courageous, loving, and lovable. Words cannot describe how much Bill will be
missed by those who loved him.
