Ronald “Ronnie” Blanchette, 75, formerly of Belmont passed away November 13, 2023 after a 30-year battle with heart disease. Ronald is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Carol (Gorelchenka) Blanchette, daughter Michelle of Bedford, MA, son Ronald Jr. of St. Petersburg, FL, brothers Eugene and Bernard and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Philip and Elizabeth, brothers Philip, Robert, and Paul, and sister Mary.
Ronnie grew up in Belmont and attended Belmont High School. In 1966, Ronnie enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving 2 years in Vietnam with the 9th Marine Amphibious Brigade before his honorable discharge in May of 1968 at the rank of Corporal. Ronnie joined the Belmont Police Department in 1970, and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant (’79), Lieutenant (’82), and Captain (’93) before being appointed Chief of Police in 1995. Ronnie retired from the Belmont Police Department in 2002 after dedicating 31 years of service to the citizens of Belmont.
In his retirement, Ronnie and Carol vacationed in Naples, FL where they were often joined by his children and friends. Ronnie maintained an active and fulfilling lifestyle in his retirement, becoming an avid golfer who reveled in the challenges and joys of the sport.
Ronnie served as a member of the Belmont Veterans Memorial Committee, dedicated to establishing and preserving Belmont’s memorials to its veterans and those who died in service.
Ronnie’s legacy of service, passion for life and dedication to his community will live on in those who knew him as will the profound impact he made and enduring love he shared with his family and friends.
Visiting hours will be held in the Brown & Hickey Funeral Home at 36 Trapelo Road, Belmont, MA 02478 on November 28th from 4:00PM - 7:00PM. There will be a private burial service at the Belmont Cemetery the following day. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Ronnie’s memory to the following:
