Mildred E (O'Neil) McCarty

Mildred E.(O'Neil) McCarty "Millie" (87) passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family November 15, 2023.

Beloved wife of the late Thomas F. McCarty, Jr,  daughter of the late John and Mildred (Murphy) O'Neil, and sister of the late William Murphy,  Millie grew up in the Kerry Corner neighborhood of Cambridge. Millie’s legendary stories confirmed her pride in her Cambridge roots. She grew up on Hayes St. and shared generously the stories of her old neighbors and childhood.

Millie was the loving mother of four children, Daniel McCarty, Sheila Morabito, William McCarty and Elaine McCarty and the cherished grandmother to Katie, Elizabeth, Kevin, Evan and Aiden McCarty and Chris Morabito and remained close to several nieces and nephews and her cousin, Kay Murray and life long friends Ann Regan and Barbara and John Hanify. 

Millie leaves a legion of friends and client acquaintances from her Belmont neighborhood and her valuable decades-long service to Boston law firms, Hanify & King.

Millie was an experienced traveler and adventurer, enjoying Ireland, England, France and Italy. She loved the Red Sox and walking her dogs: Nick ,Muffin, Murphy, Coco and Finn on Nantucket and Maine beaches.

She kept her world engaged with  wonderful stories, her humorous anecdotes, her loyalty and fierce commitment to her heritage and her impressive business competence. Her sage and candid advice will be missed as will her spontaneous smile, and devoted friendship and mother’s love.

Funeral from the Brown & Hickey Funeral Home 36 Trapelo Road Belmont on Wednesday Nov 22 at 9:00 AM. Followed by  a funeral mass in St Paul Church (corner of Bow and Arrow Streets) Cambridge at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Tuesday from 4:00  7:00 PM. Interment Belmont Cemetery.
