Marlene A. (Becker) Flewelling of Belmont Nov. 8, 2023. Daughter of the late Harold and Mary (Wallace) Becker. Beloved wife of the late Walter A. Flewelling. Loving mother of Wally and his wife Cathy and Rick and his wife Angel. Cherished grandmother of Michael Flewelling and his wife Megan and Krista Pasquarella and her husband Tony. Great grandmother of Daxton and Archer. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Marlene was involved in the Belmont community, along with her husband Wally for over 40 years. Marlene served as a Belmont Library Trustee, Town Meeting Member, volunteer at the Belmont Senior Center and was involved with the Belmont Women’s Club. Marlene was employed by McLean Hospital for 25 years. She was raised in Needham, graduating from Needham High in 1951. In her youth she shared wonderful times with her cousins, Claire McCormack, Cathy Quinn, Dorothy Pike, and Gerry Adler. She and Wally enjoyed many wonderful friends in Belmont for holiday parties, cookouts and dinners at Ken’s Steakhouse in Framingham and Fantasias in Cambridge. Marlene enjoyed going for lunch at Grassfields with her cousin Claire McCormack and niece Meg Quinn as well as lunch at Gregs with Mary Rayan and Nancy Fay.
Marlene was an avid reader, especially enjoying authors Mary Higgins Clark, Danielle Steel, John Grisham, and James Patterson.
She loved to gift books to her children and grandchildren. On holidays and birthdays Marlene was sure to reach out to her family and friends with a nice greeting card.
Marlene took on a new hobby in her mid life years as an antiques trader along with her friend Joan Oates. They covered Route 1 in Maine searching for the next great deal, and would show their collection at local trade shows .
Marlene’s greatest joys revolved around her family. Her 50+ years of summers in Kennebunkport included all her family visiting for Christmas in July parties, boating and beaching, and shopping in The Port. At her cottage Marlene and Wally were joined by her sons, their wives, and her grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held in the Brown & Hickey Funeral Home 36 Trapelo Road Belmont on Wednesday Nov.15th from 4:00 - 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Home For Little Wonderers 10 Guest Street Boston MA 02135 or Sancta Maria Nursing facility 799 Concord Ave Cambridge MA 02138
