GRIFFITH, Kathleen "Kitty" (Mayo) Age 76, died of cancer on March 3, 2021, at her home in Belmont, MA. She was raised in Ben Avon, PA by parents Warren Henry Mayo and Rachel Merrill Mayo, and was a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
Kitty is survived by her husband Peter Griffith of Belmont, MA, her daughter Sara Laber Young (Stephen) and grandchildren Nicholas and Lucas Young of Arlington, VA, stepdaughter Katherine "Kat" Griffith (Soren Hauge) of Ripon, WI, and step-grandchildren Sav Hauge, Bjorn Hauge, and Pei Biorn-Hansen, her brother Benjamin Mayo (Dinah) of Hoboken, NJ, her sisters Nancy Taras (Brian) of Walnutport, PA, Marguerite Ringenburg (David) of Chapel Hill, NC, and Constance Mayo of Deer Isle, ME, nephew Nicholai Taras of Strasbourg, France, and nieces Rachel Taras of Walnutport, PA and Ali Ringenburg of Cambridge, MA.
Kitty was a woman of many passions, diverse and decades-long. Music was a fundamental part of her life, both teaching children and playing. She devoted herself to the cello and chamber music. For years, Kitty was an active member of the Boston Mycological Society and travelled the world in search of mushrooms, slime molds, and lichen. Her most recent passion was gardening and watching the many visitors, feathered and furry, large and small, to her backyard. She relished a fine bottle of wine and a delicious meal with friends. She delighted in providing memorable adventures and moments to celebrate every day, particularly for the children and grandchildren in her life.
A Memorial Service is being planned for a later date.
