Julie Campbell Obituary

Julie Ann Campbell, 56, of Belmont, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on May 20, 2023. She had a great sense of humor, was straightforward and adventurous, and had a beautiful smile. Julie was a much-loved daughter, sister, aunt, and niece, as well as a caring friend and a trusted colleague. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, she grew up in Belmont, graduating from Belmont High School. Having earned degrees from MassBay Community College and Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, she embarked on a career as an early childhood educator doing what she loved, teaching children. Julie had a special gift of connecting with, relating to, and understanding young children. Her passion for teaching encompassed her entire career. While working at Artisan Childcare Center in Newton, MA, she was recognized as “Teacher of the Year.” In addition to being a nursery school teacher, Julie also cared for several families, becoming an integral and cherished member of each family. In her free time, Julie enjoyed traveling, scrapbooking, watercolor painting, and reading. She loved being with friends, especially watching the Patriots and Bruins games together. Julie and her sister cultivated regular weekly Wednesday fun nights as well. She was ready to travel at a moment’s notice as she liked adventures and road trips. Julie had a particular affinity for all things Scottish, embracing her heritage. Julie was crafty and clever and was always eager to help and share her creativity.

She is survived by her mother Margaret Haviland Campbell of Belmont and her father David Campbell and his wife Donna Campbell of Ft. Myers, FL. Loving sister to Jane Barrell and her husband Joseph P. Barrell Jr. of Belmont; their children, Katelyn Barrell Maurer and her husband Louis Maurer of Belmont, Joseph Parker Barrell III of Burlington VT and David Barrell of Waltham; her sister Jennifer Campbell and her children, James Naples and Olivia Helbig all of Belmont. Niece of Peter Haviland and his wife Charlotte Degen of Brewster; their children, Colin Haviland of Abington and Eamon Jay of Vancouver, WA.
