Babalas, Frances (Drakopoulos), 96, of Belmont, formerly of Cambridge, passed peacefully on Friday, March 12, 2021. Born in Haverhill, Massachusetts on January 17, 1925 to the late Rigas and Demetra Drakopoulos. Beloved wife of the late Paul K. Babalas.
Frances loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed gardening, was a great baker, and an avid reader of romance novels. She was quite a talented seamstress. Quiet in demeanor, she never had a bad word to say about anyone. And though she was more of a listener than a talker, Frances was also known for her quick wit and great sense of humor. Stoic and dignified, Frances led by example. She was a lady of class and a blessing to all those who knew and loved her.
Devoted mother of Marcine Otis and her husband James of Stamford, CT, Emanuel Babalas and his wife Debra of Belmont, MA, Danita Babalas of Belmont, MA, and Corrine Babalas of Norfolk, VA.
Loving Yiayia to 9 grandchildren: Mark Otis and his wife Maria, Melissa Otis, Krystal Babalas Mershon and her husband John, Katia Babalas Koletsis and her husband Manolis, Paul Babalas and his partner Gia Karellas, Nicole Babalas Nichols and her husband Kevin Tarca, Christopher Nichols, Evan Nichols, and Paul Nichols and his fiancé, Jacqui Tresca.
Loving “Big” Yiayia to 7 great-grandchildren: Nicholas and Christopher Otis, Jordan and Skyler Blackinton, Gemma and Luca Babalas, and Emilia Koletsis.
Sister of the late James Drakopoulos and Constance Demos. Cherished aunt to Paul Demos and his wife Carmen. Mother-in-law to Nicholas Nichols and beloved friend of Marilyn Nichols. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and relatives.
The family extends its sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff at Belmont Manor for their excellent care.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, March 16th from 4-7pm at Brown & Hickey Funeral Home, 36 Trapelo Road, Belmont, MA 02478. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 17th at noon at The Taxiarchae Greek Orthodox Church, 25 Bigelow Avenue, Watertown, MA 02472. Interment to follow at the Cambridge Cemetery. Due to Covid 19 restrictions face masks and social distancing is required.
