Theresa McCauley Obituary

Theresa Sarah (Sweeney) McCauley passed away peacefully at home on September 10, 2018 surrounded by family. Beloved mother and grandmother, she was a Waltham resident for 65 years.

Theresa was born in 1926 in Needham, Massachusetts, daughter of Thomas H. and Sarah I. (Curley) Sweeney. She was a devoted and loving wife to Leo A. McCauley for 62 years, before his passing in 2009. She was a cherished mother to Leo A. McCauley II and his wife Shelley of Brockton, MA; and the late Nancy L. Bizzozero and her husband Arnold of Waltham. She was the beloved grandmother of Seth and Jarrad McCauley of Brockton, MA; Nicholas Bizzozero, Rachel Malley and her husband Evan of Waltham; and the late Alexander Bizzozero.

She was preceded in death by her dear siblings M. Beverly Ferrullo, Calvin Sweeney, James Sweeney, Josephine Leverone, John Donati, E. Walter Sweeney, Isabelle Eudey, J. Thomas Sweeney and Gertrude Mahoney. Theresa is survived by her sisters in law Evelyn Sweeney of Lakeville, MA, and Ann Sweeney of West Roxbury, MA. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and  cousins.

Theresa was a wonderful woman who devoted her life to her family. Although she was born in Needham, she grew up in Roxbury where she met the love of her life, Leo. In the 1940s she enjoyed working as a bookkeeper at Sears in Boston where she made lifelong friends. She married Leo in 1947 after he returned home from  his service in WWII. They built a beautiful home together in Waltham in 1952 where they raised their family and spent the rest of their lives. Her hobbies included bowling leagues, ceramics and Friday night bingo at Our Lady’s Church in Waltham. She loved Irish music, musical movies, family gatherings and a good cup of tea. She attended St. Luke’s Church in Belmont for over 60 years. She was kind, loving, caring and generous. Her beautiful blue eyes sparkled when she laughed and she loved a good practical joke. She was loved by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.”
