Stephen Louis Washburn, MD of Concord, formerly of Belmont, died peacefully at home of lung cancer on June 21, 2018. Survived by beloved wife Suzanne; daughters Lisa, Sara W. J. Levy and Husband Michael, and son James; granddaughters Jessica Zaval and husband Peter, Betsy Jorgensen Forbes and husband Brendan; great grandchildren Benjamin, Elliott, and Malachy Zaval; and many nieces and nephews.
Graduate of Milton Academy 1943, U.S. Army 1943-1944, graduate of Harvard College (on hockey team) 1948, and Washington University Medical School 1952. Published medical papers on Acne with Dr. Grover Liese. At McLean Hospital, Belmont, developed and researched the Psychiatric Day Program after 20 years and published related scientific articles. Private practice throughout career and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. Member of research review committee of the National Institute of Mental Health; representative of Massachusetts Psychiatric Society to the Assembly of Massachusetts Psychiatric Association. In later years, Medical Director of Solomon Mental Health Center, Lowell, MA. Chairman of his 25th, 50th, and 60th Harvard class reunions. Member of Harvard Club of Boston, Belmont Hill Club, Delphic Club, Harvard Varsity Club, and Belmont Cheese Club. Enjoyed tennis, skiing, and care of his Belmont fruit orchard.
Funeral service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church 81 Elm Street, Concord, June 27th at 11:00 AM. Reception following. Burial Private.
