Peggy was a friend, a sister-priest and a mentor with an indomitable spirit and quiet but endless enthusiasm. She had a keen, curious mind, a strong spirit of immense gentleness and a generous and kind heart. She knew how to preach the gospel, and did so with passion, intelligence, and integrity from a place of deep truth in her heart. I loved her laugh. I have a carved bowl she encouraged me to buy while we were at a Clergy Leadership Conference in Connecticut. I think of her every time I use it. I’ll miss her until I see her again when I, too, return to Eden.

Dear Peter and family--I was saddened to learn of Peggy's death and write to offer my condolences to you all. Peggy was an important person in my life during my years at EDS and Christ Church Cambridge. She supervised me as we worked together with the indefagitable Murray Kenney. You welcomed me into your home for Thanksgiving dinners and in every way were supportive of me. Peggy's intelligence, commitment, kindness and curiosity were great gifts to me and many others who benefitted from her ministry. I saw her last in Memphis where although affected by a stroke, she was as ever, charming, vivacious, full of life and curiosity. Please know that I am with you as you move through these days ahead. Yours sincerely, Peter G. Elliott, pgelliott@me.com

What a wonderful woman! Peggy officiated with a rabbi at my wedding in 1995. Our rabbi was a little tipsy from the cocktail hour (before the service) but Peggy helped everyone maintain their sense of humor. At our premarital counseling session, she forced my future husband and I to take a realistic view of our relationship. We were so fortunate and happy to have her there.

A few years later when my grandmother was ill, Peggy came to visit her and sat and talked with our whole family; she was such a comfort. I remember her telling us that by allowing our mother and grandmother to be home in her final hours, we were giving her a "good death". I admired her intelligence, compassion, and dedication to her congregants at Christ Church in Ridgewood. I am so sorry for your loss and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
