Anita L. Mahoney, 84, of Duxbury and Boca Raton, Florida, formerly of Belmont, died peacefully at home October 18, 2018. Loving wife of the late William T. Mahoney. Loving mother of Donna Orth and her husband Stephen of Hyannis, Karen Puopolo and her husband Steven of Groveland, Paula Mahoney of Duxbury, William Mahoney, Jr., and his wife Margaret of Duxbury, Theresa Emigh of Boca Raton, Florida, Kevin Mahoney and his wife Tonya of Billerica, Richard Mahoney and his wife Ime of Worcester, and Eileen Jacobson and her husband Kenneth of Duxbury. She adored and was loved by her many many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Daughter of the late Alice L. Carey, and sister of the late David M. Carey, she leaves her dear Sister-in-law Patricia Carey of Rockland, and her beloved cousins, two of whom (Nancy Maguire (Aldo) Pili and Carol Conroy (Robert) Brooks have been like her sisters; She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and her beloved friends.
From age ten Anita enjoyed a summer home in Duxbury, and there she met her childhood friend, Bill, whom she would later join in life and raise their own family of eight children, in Belmont and Duxbury. She would spend every summer in Duxbury with her family, her "favorite place in the world". She spent the last 30 winters in Boca Raton, but her heart has always and will forever stay in Duxbury.
Anita was extremely proud of her large family whose spirit was of love, togetherness, joy, laughter and fun. She was devoted to her mother, and was kind and generous. She loved family, always welcoming company and friends. She became this kind of grandmother, too, always there for each one ...a testament to her gracious nature is how much she is loved by her children and grandchildren, and her close family and friends.
While raising her large family, she also found time to work, and spent years at Belmont and Waltham Savings Banks where she met and maintained many lifelong friends.
With a sparkle in her eye she had a knack for making people feel special, so that each person she was with felt like they were truly her number one.
